The Importance of Staying Hydrated
Drinking water is one of the simple things we can do that directly impacts every system in our bodies. It is especially important to stay hydrated in the summer months when it is warmer outside! So, what exactly does water do for our health and well-being?
1. Physiological Functions - Water makes up a significant portion of our body composition, ranging from 50% to 75% depending on age and gender. It serves several critical functions:
Temperature Regulation: Water helps regulate body temperature through sweating and respiration.
Nutrient Transport: It aids in the transport of nutrients and oxygen to cells and removal of waste products.
Joint Lubrication: Water lubricates joints and acts as a shock absorber for our organs.

Even if you are experiencing a very mild form of dehydration, you may experience feelings of hunger, leading you to believe that you need to consume food. However, your body may actually be sending you signals that it needs more water! Given that water is calorie-free, drinking water before meals and maintaining hydration is a great tip to keep in your wellness toolbox.
5. Overall Health and Longevity - Chronic dehydration has been linked to various health problems, including kidney stones, urinary tract infections, and even more severe conditions like kidney failure. Adequate hydration is also associated with a reduced risk of cardiovascular diseases and certain types of cancers.
Staying hydrated is not merely a recommendation but a fundamental aspect of maintaining good health!
